Volunteer Application

Often referred to as "Cop Watchers" or "1st Amendment Auditors" what began in the 1990s a s a way to hold police misconduct accountable now has grown to encompass a variety of activities.   Modern Citizen Reporters "keep their ear to the ground" and often build networks of reliable sources.

Physically observe local court proceedings and collect data to expose abuses.  These individuals often gather the data needed to show constitutional violations at the court level.

A basic understanding of  your local legal system is beneficial but not necessary, training is often offered to the volunteer prior to starting.  

Administrative support that can often be done from the privacy of your own couch on your laptop!  Gaining records via successful requests is a skill that can be gained rather quickly if you are familiar with letter writing, email, and file management.  Occasionally involves in person visits to government offices.
